And yet another one from Joe. This time it's the dear old badger rooting around in the long grass. Joe seems to have the knack for getting good wildlife clips. Fingers crossed he gets a feline wandering past his camera.
Welcome to the Big Cats In Britain Wildlife Trigger Camera Blog
Welcome to the Big Cats In Britain Wildlife Trigger Camera Blog
The Big Cats in Britain organisation, (BCIB), predominately searches for evidence of native and non native feline species living in the British Countryside. Part of our research includes the use of wildlife trigger cameras, also known as stealth cams or trail cams . These operate using infra-red technology to take pictures of any animal that passes the camera.
Our members have dozens of these cameras in various locations around the British Isles, operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
This blog is dedicated to showing the general public, the animals we have captured on camera. These images are small snapshots of the diversity of animal life that can be found in our countryside.
We hope you enjoy them.......................

A great set of pictures of a badger from one of our sponsored cameras
Thomas Jacks Ltd, kindly donated two Spypoint cameras. One was placed in Kintyre, and has taken some great wildlife shots. Badger, fox and buzzards have all been captured on hundreds of shots. Though we are still waiting for the cat to make an appearance.
This set of 29 images are of the local badger, having a good sniff around in front of the camera. I will post the foxes and buzzards at a later date.

Badger on the run - video
Martin Cotterill (BCIB Worcestershire), checked his cameras this weekend, only to discover he had left the cam on the video setting in error. Not to worry though, as he managed to get a short video clip of a badger scuttling away into the bushes

New BCIB Member shows us his recent camera images.
Gary Ridley has recently joined our ranks and will be covering the county of Surrey. He has had trail cameras out in the field for a while and has sent these great clear shots of a fox and badger that were taken recently on his Cuddeback camera.

First pictures from a new location in Kintyre
Although I have left a single camera located at each of the sites in Kintyre previously featured in this blog, I have recently put 6 cameras into a brand new location. This location is one I have been wanting to get into for several years and is smack in the middle of the area that has had more cat sightings than any other in Kintyre over the last 5 years.
These images are from the camera that I currentlty have on loan from a good friend, Dick Raynor of the Loch Ness Investigation Bureau.
I have placed this camera on the edge of a forest fence, where it is obvious that an animal has crawled under it creating a very large hole. As you can see, it is not just one animal that is using this "tunnel", as we have images of both fox and badger. Along with a number of sub-adult pheasants. The hole in the fence is to the left of the frame.

More images from the muntjac carcass site.
Tim Jenkins (BCIB Warwickshire), checked his muntjac carcass site yesterday and found some squirrel, deer and fox pictures as well as his first pictures of a badger. When Tim got there the cam had big muddy paw prints over it where the badger had investigated it VERY closely. This is the second badger in less than a week that has had a go at one of our cameras in locations hundreds of miles apart.

Hungry badger taste testing the camera.
I had a bit of a shock when I recently checked the trailcam. I check it every week, the batteries and memory can last at least a month but I look forward to viewing what pictures it's captured, I find it very exciting and captivating. Plus if anything has gone wrong, I can sort it out.
On checking the camera this time I found the camo net was torn and the lens was smudged. Although the angle was still roughly right it certainly wasn't how I left it.
The culprit, as I played back the 30 second film was plain to see. It was the badger who shows up from time to time. Still, no harm done as it seems this cam is bulletproof and hopefully it will leave it alone now it's had a taste. I've set it for the prime purpose of capturing a cat, so even the up close shots should fit the whole body in. Although the videos now will be a bit overexposed as it points more up to the sky......

Badger, Fox and Roe Deer
Here are the latest batch of images from the same location as the unidentified large cat in Argyll. Along with tens of pictures of a fox, there was also one of the badger, that likes to make an appearance every now and then, (and I still can't find out where it is coming from as there is no sign of a badger sett anywhere nearby). Also a nice close up picture of a roe deer doe, and a blurry roe deer buck on the run

Fox photo strip and a hungry badger
After baiting an area in a forest in the south of Kintyre, this fox appeared and gobbled up all the bait. While a poor badger arrived too late to grab an easy meal. These images were captured using a Cuddeback Trail Cam

Badgers climbing trees in Sussex
Derek Bilston (BCIB Sussex) is also a member of The Sussex Big Cat Watch, a small group of investigators concentrating on researching the big cat sightings in their county. Charlie, one of their members has recently created a new blog detailing some of the research they are involved in. It is a very good read and can be found at http://bigcatdetective.blogspot.com/.
They too have a trigger camera and Charlie has kindly allowed us to reproduce those articles on his blog that show some of the resulting images from their camera. The camera they are using currently is a "Stealth Trail Camera GL M100"
We hope you enjoy them, and don't forget to check out their website and their blog.
These pictures of the badgers were picked up by our infrared camera following a successful 3 week trial. It is set up somewhere in Sussex nigh on permanently. Many thanks to the landowner concerned, for their help. I don't quite know what the one up the tree is doing. It could be looking for insects or maybe just being nosey. Whatever it is, I'm glad I didn't put the camera 2ft up that tree, given the power of their claws.

Images from the Stroud Valleys, Gloucestershire. taken in September 2009.
At the weekend I installed a remote camera at a farm in the Stroud Valleys.
It is a location where we were going to have the web cam but there was no electricity supply and it was too far between the camera and the receiving computer.
After two days of the camera being up there were 12 wildlife pics, including the attached, which includes two muntjac having a scrap.
I will switch the photo options to high res from now on.
The camera is pointing to a well used deer and badger trail and a wet spring-fed area. Beyond the fence/hedge at the back of the pics is a huge and deep wooded valley. The farmer will bait this spot sometimes, esp in cold weather.
Camera used was a Moultrie
Will keep you posted.
